Sustainability

Lilydale Primary School has joined the "Learning for Sustainability" Program, co-ordinated by the Yarra Ranges Shire Council. This is a 5 step Program aimed at educating school communities to become enviornmentally sustainable in their behaviours and everyday practices. Currently our school is working through Step 2 of the Program. We hope to complete this step by mid 2009. Some of the initiatives we've undertaken to date include: -
  • Rubbish free lunch day
  • Walk to school day
  • Installing pupil made rain gauges around the school
  • Increasing paper recycling
  • Installing sensors on lights, heaters and coolers
  • Keeping records detailling animal and birds in our grounds
  • Composting
